Holly Willoughby returned to the This Morning sofa after being on a break for the last two weeks. Holly made a statement about former co-host Phillip Schofield and the ongoing drama that he lied about an affair with a younger male colleague.

It was an intense moment as Holly held back tears and publicly spoke for the first time about the situation. Josie Gibson held her hand and after the statement the two ladies hugged it out and moved swiftly on.

However later in the show tensions seemed to rise when Holly went to hand over to Loose Women host Ruth Langsford. Fans were quick to point out the very tense and awkward moment between the presenters. It’s not clear whether the pair have ever been close friends but the awkward exchange was very clear for everyone to see.

Holly explained it was time to find out what the Loose Women are up to and said “Hi there Ruth”, the split screen showed Ruth barely looking at Holly quickly replying “Hi” before moving on.

It has been a tense few weeks for everyone on the ITV daytime team. Ruth’s husband Eamonn Holmes has been very vocal about Phillip and the situation on the GB News show - branding Phillip a liar and even calling for “anyone that has kissed him [Phillip] to get in touch with the show.”

Although Ruth has been tight lipped since the feud rumours were swirling, she did appear to make a sly dig during one Loose Women show. Speaking to Collen Nolan on the topic of blind dates Colleen said “I would trust all of you to pick a blind date for me - well would I?"

Ruth joked "We might be feuding at the time!" leaving the audience in hysterics.

Ruth and Eamonn were regular hosts of This Morning every Friday and during the half term for over 15 years before they were let go in 2020. The four presenters appeared to be close and would be seen celebrating the programme’s wins at many award ceremonies.

It was reported that the couple lost their regular slot on the show due to a fall out with ITV bosses.
