However, the trailer was missing one of the key stars and fans are asking, will Samantha return?

This is everything you need to know about the cast of the upcoming 10-part series and when it releases.

Who stars in the Sex and the City 2021 reboot?

The official trailer dropped on November 30, and the 100-second long teaser revealed exactly who will be returning from the original four.

Sarah Jessica Parker returns alongside Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as they reprise the roles of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York Goldenblatt and Miranda Hobbes respectively.

In the sneak peak, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is seen kissing Mr Big (Chris Noth), as the couple look cosy in their stunning Manhattan apartment.

Parker took to Instagram in early November, to share her feelings about filming for the reboot.

On November 8, she posted: “This is my last walk, for now, as Carrie. Just wrapped,” alongside a photo of her walking down the corridor of the studio where filming for the upcoming series took place.

You may also recognise Parker from Hocus Pocus (1993), The First Wives Club (1996) and Did You Hear About the Morgans (2009).

Speculation has been circulating in recent weeks that Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) will identify as queer in the HBO series.

Shots from filming show her apparently very close with another star of the show, leading many to suggest she could be dating a woman in the new series.

Nixon identifies as queer in real life, having spoke about first identifying as bisexual in 2012.

However, in 2020 she made it clear why she uses the term ‘queer’, as opposed to lesbian or bisexual.

“I could call myself a lesbian, gay, bisexual. But none of them seems really particularly right,” she explained. "To say ‘queer’ means, ‘I’m over there, I don’t have to go into the nuances of my sexuality with you’."

She told Attitude: “Falling in love with my wife was one of the great delights and surprises of my life, but it didn’t seem like I became a whole new person, or like some door had been unlocked.”

Nixon has also starred in Addam’s Family Values (1993), Ratched (2020) and The Gilded Fellows (2021).

Kristin Davis

Davis will return as Charlotte, having played the character in all six previous series of the show.

In the upcoming series, she is still married to Harry (meaning Evan Handler will also return), as appears to play a more maternal role as the trailer show’s her at a ballet recital for her daughter.

Davis has also starred in Deck the Halls (2006), Couples Retreat (2009) and Bad Teacher (2014).

Sara Ramírez

Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramírez has joined the cast of SITC, ass Che, a non-binary stand-up comedian who regularly hosts Carrie on their wildly successful podcast, X, Y an Me.

Ramirez appears to be playing a main character in the series, given that she stars in a significant proportion of the trailer and appears to be close with Carrie.

Ramirez previously starred in Apple TV series Madame Secretary, as well as Spider-Man (2002).

John Corbett will also return as Aidan Shaw, who dated Carrie previously in the show. He will star in “quite a few” episodes, however it is not known how he will be written into the storyline.

David Eigenberg will also return, as nice guy Steve Brady, who can be seen hugging his ex-wife Miranda in the trailer, though they are not dating in the new series.

Ivan Hernandez also features alongside Ramirez, as Franklyn, Che’s sound engineer. He is best known for The Good Wife (2009), Devious Maids (2013) and NCIS (2003).

Other Sex in The City newbies include Sarita Choudhury, who will play Seema Patel, a "single, self-made powerhouse Manhattan real estate broker,” and Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley, a Park Avenue-based mother who makes documentaries.

Will Samantha return?

It has been confirmed that Kim Cattrall will no longer star in the franchise, as she was missing from the trailer and promo shots.

Cattrall has been open about not wanting to return to Sex and the City in the past.

Fans of the original series will be sad to find out that the lusty, vivacious, promiscuous PR executive ruled herself out of filming and has been written out of the show.

HBO executive Casey Bloys confirmed the news in an interview with TV Line, saying: “Just as in real life, people come into our life, people leave.

“Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.

“They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

Cattrall has not commented specifically on why she left, though a fall out with SJP could be the real reason.

A feud between Cattrall and her co-star has been rife since the second season of SITC, when Cattrall negotiated more pay and the other stars felt it was unfair. The two have at time seemed to both contest and admit to having a rocky relationship.

However, in an interview with Piers Morgan in 2017, Cattrall told him she would not be returning as Samantha in any future series, as she felt her time as Samantha had been served.

Asked about reprising her role, she said: “Not for me. That was part of turning 60. That was a very clear moment of, how many years do I have left and what do I want to do with it? What haven’t I done? I feel that the show was the best when it was the series and the bonus was the two movies.”

What will happen with Willie Garson’s character?

Sex in the City star Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch, sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer during filming for the new series.

It is not known whether any footage from Garson’s contribution to the series will feature, or how he will be written out of the show. It appears that his on-screen husband Mario Cantone will return as Anthony Marentino.

At the time of his passing in late September, his SITC co-stars paid tribute to the man who played the flamboyant talent agent and close friend and confidante of Carrie Bradshaw.

Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, tweeted: "Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo."

Cynthia Nixon posted a tribute on Twitter, writing: "So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional- always."
