The long-running crime drama, Silent Witness, will conclude its 24th series on Tuesday (5 October)
After an 18-month delay, the new season has followed on from series 23’s dramatic finale.
Featuring a new character, after the loss of two staple characters of the BBC forensic drama, season 24 delivered a new dynamic between Dr Nikki Alexander and Jack Hodgson.

When is Silent Witness season 24 released?
The new series of Silent Witness will air on Monday 6 September on BBC One at 9pm.
The second episode will air at 9pm the next day (7 September) on BBC One.
The remaining four double-headers will be released in the same pattern, with new episodes airing every Monday and Tuesday on BBC One until the finale.
Who’s in the cast of Silent Witness?
Silent Witness season 24 will see the return of Emilia Fox as Dr Nikki Alexander. Fox has been in the role since 2004. David Caves will also return as Jack Hodgson.
Jason Wong is the latest addition to the cast, playing the role of pathologist Adam Yuen. Yuen can be seen in The Gentleman, Strangers and Chimerica.
On joining Silent Witness, Wong said: “I am so excited to be joining Silent Witness, like everyone else I have been a huge fan of the show for years and to be becoming part of the family feels like a huge privilege. I can’t wait for audiences to see all we have in store for them in this new series.”
Season 24 will feature a host of guest stars, including Kevin Eldon, Ann Mitchell, Lorraine Ashbourne, Sian Phillips, Pauline McGlynn and Nicholas Woodeson.
After the tragic and shocking events of season 23’s finale, Richard Lintern will not be returning as Thomas Chamberlain, as well as Lz Carr as Clarissa Mullery.
Carr’s character left the show at the of the season, saying to her team that it was time fo there to “focus less on the dead and more on the living”.
Speaking about her decision to leave the show, Liz Carr said: “Originally only employed for four episodes as Jack’s side kick, I am incredibly proud that I leave as a main character in one of the BBC’s landmark dramas. Silent Witness has given me such an amazing opportunity to develop as an actor but I know this is the right time to take a leap of faith, leaving what I know and seeing what other opportunities await.”
What is Silent Witness season 24 about?
The BBC synopsis of the latest series says Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and Jack Hodgson (David Caves) are looking forward to the future at the start of the latest series - “However buried secrets and memories soon surface, and, when ghosts from the past emerge, the two are forced increasingly close to one another.”
Adam Yuen’s (Jason Wong) arrival “disturbs this new dynamic”. Described as “a confident, bright and keen pathologist who’s constantly striving to be the best,” he immediately starts to create tension with Nikki and Jack.
Speaking ahead of the new season, Emilia Fox said: It’s fantastic to be back filming Series 24 of Silent Witness with five terrific new storylines, our wonderful crew, great new casts for each story and to be welcoming the very lovely and talented Jason Wong to the Lyell team, who is an absolute joy to work with!”
Will there be Silent Witness season 25?
There’s good news for any Silent Witness fans, as the long-running forensic drama got confirmed for season 25 in 2022.
As well as the ongoing season 24, Silent Witness will return next year for a special anniversary series to mark 25 years on our screens.
