The Last of Us is almost here, with fans waiting in suspense for the post-apocalyptic drama to hit our screens in the New Year.

The show is based on the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog which received critical acclaim, with praise for its narrative, gameplay, visuals, sound design, score, characterization, and depiction of female characters.

The game itself went on to become one of the best-selling video games, selling over 1.3 million units in its first week and has won multiple accolades including multiple Game of the Year awards and is still regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made.

Due to its success it didn’t take long for fans to start speculating about whether a TV or film adaptation could be in the works. Many fans were keen to see The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal cast as Joel, one of the main characters, and were delighted when it was announced he would be joining the cast in 2021.

According to Sky, who released an official description of the highly-anticipated TV show:  “The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

When is it out?

Sky announced the highly anticipated series will air on 16 January. The nine-episode series also teased the official key art.

How to watch The Last of Us

The Last of Us will be available in all Sky markets including the UK & Ireland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You can watch the latest episodes every week from the release date exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

Superfans of The Last of Us will not miss out on the global excitement with each instalment available at the same time as the US premiere each week at 2am and on demand thereafter.
