The show is presented by Claudia Winkleman, 50, and sees contestants aim to receive a share of more than £100,000.

A loyal audience is already growing around the show and TV insiders are suggesting that a celebrity version is the “natural next step”.

Speaking metro.co.uk, Sarah Fay and Toni Ireland - executive producers on the show - shared who they would like to see in a celebrity line up.

Sarah said: “I'd love to see Rylan [Clark], he'd be incredible, but also Kathy Burke is a fan. I mean Russell T Davies is a fan. I think I'd want very much a mixture of different types of celebs as well.”

A US version of Traitors has seen stars of other reality shows such as Below Deck, Big Brother, and TV personalities.

With a range of reality stars on this side of the Atlantic, we could expect to see similar celebrities head into the castle too.

The show is filmed in the Scottish Highlands at Ardross Castle.

The show sees a small number of the group secretly selected by Claudia to be ‘Traitors’ who must remove one of the ‘Faithfuls’ each night by ‘murdering’ them.

If the Traitor is identified for their treacherous behaviour, they are banished from the castle.

The show was originally a Dutch TV show before the BBC began to run an amended UK version. The winners of the show are able to split a prize pot of up to £101,050.

A celebrity version is likely to help raise money for charities including Children in Need or Comic Relief.
