Gentleman Jack returns for its second series which will follow the life of the newly married Anne Lister and Ann Walker.
Lister was a real person who lived for most of her life at her family estate, Shibden Hall, in Halifax.
Suranne Jones will reprise her role as Lister for season two, Sophie Rundle returns as Ann Walker, and Gemma Whelan will once again play Anne’s sister, Marian.
The second season will see Anne and her wife set up home together, and with Halifax on the brink of revolution, Lister’s decision to live openly as a lesbian could prove dangerous.
Season two of the BBC drama will feature several iconic Yorkshire locations and historic sites.
Where is Gentleman Jack filmed?
Season two of the show was filmed across Yorkshire at a range of period locations.
Shibden Hall, Halifax
The real estate which Anne’s family owned and where they lived features extensively in the series with many of the scenes set at the hall actually filmed there.
Anne’s bedroom scenes were shot in a studio because the film crew could not fit into her real room.
Shibden Hall is now a visitor attraction and is maintained by Calderdale Council - hall garners were asked not to mow the lawns ahead of filming so that the estate would look more like it did in Anne’s day.
Sutton Park, York
This Georgian stately home in the village of Sutton-on-the-Forest just outside York stood in for the home of Ann Walker
It is now owned by Samantha Cameron’s father, Sir Reginald Sheffield, and fans of the series can visit the estate in August when it is open for guided tours.
Bramham Estate, Leeds
The Braham estate, between Leeds and Tadcaster features as the exterior of Skelfer House, a farmhouse west of Market Weighton where the Lister family lived until the early 19th century.
Broughton Hall, Skipton
This North Yorkshire estate was used to film scenes set at the Black Swan Inn in the show.
Now the estate provides off the grid holiday cottages for those in search of a relaxing getaway.
Harewood House Estate, Leeds
The house itself does not feature, but Harewood estate land was used to film scenes set a Southolm Farm.
It was at Southolm Farm that Thomas Snowden proposed to Suzannah Washington in the first season.
Fairfax House, York
The Georgian townhouse in York, which is now a museum, was used to film interior scenes of Lister’s former lover Vere Hobart’s home.
Other filming locations
Other grand Yorkshire houses which feature in season two of Gentleman Jack include Wentworth Woodhouse in Rotherham, Langton Hall in Malton, Grays Court in York, Oakwell Hall in Birstall, and Temple Newsham in Leeds.
The ruins of the 12th century Rievaulx Abbey also feature in season two as the location of a hustings.
