Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas loses licence despite dad admitting speeding at 130mph in Lotus
A tennis star must pay a €2,000 fine and lose his licence for a year despite his father claiming he was the one speeding at 130mph - because police say it is too late to appeal.
Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas's car was captured on a speed camera travelling at 210kph in the city of Athens, in Greece, according to reports on November 30.
The traffic violation resulted in a fine of €2,000 (£1,700) and a one-year driving licence suspension for Stefanos, which the athlete will be forced to pay despite his father saying that he was the one driving his son's Lotus.
The lawyer of the athlete had earlier stated to the media that a third person was driving the vehicle at the time.

According to the programme Weekend Live, the tennis star’s father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, went to Attica Traffic Police on November 26 with proof that the fine had been paid and told officers that he had been driving the car.
The report said that he attempted to hand over his own driving licence. But police reportedly refused to accept this because the seven-day deadline for reassigning responsibility or filing an objection had passed.

The Traffic Police commander, therefore, informed him that Stefanos must personally appear and surrender his licence for one year. Reports added that he had not yet handed in the document.
Stefanos is a Greek professional tennis player who has reached world No 3 in the ATP rankings and won multiple ATP titles, including the ATP Finals, becoming the first Greek player to achieve the feat, and he has also reached two Grand Slam finals, at the Australian Open and the French Open.
