Teenager unable to wear shoes and left struggling to walk after suffering from ‘Covid Toes’

Schoolgirl Sofia, 13, from Clackmannanshire, Scotland, is unable to wear shoes some days due to her toes being covered in blisters.

Sofia’s condition is believed to be a long-term side-effect of Covid-19, with ‘Covid Toes’ causing lesions on the toes of some people who have had the virus.

Although Sofia has never tested positive for the virus, she may have had it and been asymptomatic.

She told BBC Scotland's The Nine : "My feet swell up, I get blisters all over them and they go from pink to purple really quickly.

"I get lumps on the bottom of them which makes it really hard to stand up for long. I can only wear flip-flops. "

"Before this, I was singing, dancing and just running around the place. Now I can't really do that so it's very different," Sofia added.

She also has to use a wheelchair for longer walks and is not able to join her classmates due to being too unwell.

Although symptoms of 'Covid Toes' usually clear up within a few days for most people, in some severe cases like Sofia’s they can last for months.

Her mum, Gaby, said her daughter had been to see several dermatologists for tests and had been on steroids, but no treatments had worked so far.

Sofia is now trying to adapt and hopes her symptoms will subside one day soon.
