Covid infections: the age groups in England with the highest coronavirus rates

NationalWorld takes a look at the Covid rates among different age groups in England - with schoolchildren facing the highest number of infections

Children aged between 10 and 14 currently have the highest rates of Covid in England, as Labour warns some school pupils might not get jabbed until next year.

In the seven days to 18 November there were 1,073.3 new cases per 100,000 under 10 to 14 year olds recorded, according to the Government’s Covid dashboard.

The week before, the seven-day rate was 791.6 cases per 100,000, a difference of 281.7.

This age group also had the highest number of Covid cases overall in England – 36,874 in the seven days to 18 November, an average of 5,267.7 per day in the week to 18 November.

Across England there were 238,090 cases recorded over the same seven days, a rate of 421 for every 100,000 people.

That was up from 366.5 a week earlier.

Rolling seven-day periods are used to smooth out fluctuations on different days of the week.

Labour warned this week that some 12 to 15 year olds will not get their jab until February, a prediction based on the average vaccination rate for the past four weeks.

This is despite an ambition from NHS England to offer the vaccine to all eligible teenagers in that age group by the October half-term.
