UK children help launch national Christmas campaign giving a voice to young people with eczema

This Christmas, six children from all across the UK are using their voices to raise awareness about the challenges of living with eczema. Among them are Lily from Kidderminster and Holly from Edinburgh, who feature in The Itch Before Christmas - a reimagined six-verse version of The Night Before Christmas telling the story of a child with eczema with a very special wish.

The campaign, run by the charity Eczema Outreach Support (EOS) and featuring a bespoke illustration from children’s author Clare Elsom, highlights not only the physical discomfort of eczema, including pain, itching, and sleep disruption, but also the emotional impact: isolation, anxiety, and difficulties making friends. The project aims to raise funds for EOS’s High 5 Club, a virtual space where children with eczema can form friendships, gain confidence, and feel understood.

Lily, from Kidderminster, said:

“I took part because I wanted people to know that they're not the only ones with eczema.”

Her mum, Rachel, added:

“Lily feels like she is part of the EOS team, so she was so proud to be asked to take part in the campaign - and help spread awareness of the charity and all that they do.”

Holly, from Edinburgh, said:

“I wanted to get my voice to be heard and I love the story of The Night Before Christmas and I wanted to be in the EOS new unique version.”

Her mum, Gillian, explained:

“Holly can feel quite alone with her eczema and it’s great that she could be in the campaign highlighting the difficulties of eczema at this time of year.”

EOS CEO Suzi Holland said:

“These children’s voices are incredibly powerful. Many people don’t realise how much eczema can affect a child’s confidence, friendships, and sense of belonging - especially at Christmas, when they may feel left out of things other children can enjoy. Our hope is that this campaign helps more families feel seen and ensures more children like Holly and Lily can connect with others who truly understand what they’re going through.”

A gift of £8 can fund one High 5 Club session for a child, while a monthly donation provides ongoing support, helping children with eczema make friends and gain confidence all year round.
