Although I eagerly await the Met Gala every year, I have to be honest with you that it kind of left me a little flat this year which explains why I was compelled to write ‘Has the Met Gala lost its allure as Blake Lively skips event?’ However, there was one star that most definitely stood out amongst the rather disappointing outfits and that was Jennie Kim.

As a Chanel ambassador, it made sense for BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim to wear the brand, but it was the way she wore it and of course the piece she chose. Jennie Kim looked incredibly chic in a vintage 1990 Chanel mini dress which she accessorised with the accessory so far of 2023, opera style gloves.

Jennie Kim’s Chanel dress was accessorised with the brand’s classic camellia and she wore a matching one in her hair. According to Vogue, Jennie was “one of Karl Lagerfeld’s last handpicked muses for the house of Chanel.” What made Jennie’s appearance at the Met Gala even more special was not only that she was dressed in Chanel, but that she was making her debut at the event, but walked in like she had been attending for years.

If being a Chanel ambassador and making your Met debut in 2023 wasn’t enough for Jennie Kim, she has now teamed up with Clavin Klein on a Limited-edition capsule collection According to WWD (Women’s Wear Daily), “The South Korean artist, brand ambassador and global star has been associated with the Calvin Klein brand since 2021, when Kim was featured in a campaign for CK’s collaboration with Heron Preston. She has been featured in Calvin campaigns ever since.”

On an Instagram post promoting the range, which has at the time of writing over 4 million likes, Jennie said “Thank you to my wonderful Calvin family for this dream collab. So happy to share this with the world. Love you guys.”

On Calvin Klein’s website, the Jennie for Calvin Klein capsule collection is described as “These are JENNIE’S wardrobe essentials. A new capsule collection to dream over.” If I was to pick out any items from the collection that I would opt for they would be the ‘Overdyed 90’s Straight Jeans, £150 (inc. VAT) that are unfortunately already sold out and the French Terry Crewneck Sweatshirt in Sheer Lilac, £130 (inc.VAT), also sold out!

As I scroll through the website, it looks like many of the items are sold out, but there seem to be a few still available, so if the collection takes your fancy, I would get a move on when it comes to adding the items to your basket!

Jennie Kim is of course better known (although not for long) for being part of South Korean girl group, BLACKPINK. She made history last month (alongside her fellow band members) by becoming the first South Korean act to headline Coachella. They have also won two MTV Video Music Awards and are the most subscribed-act on YouTube, with over 82 million subscribers!

It doesn’t take a genius to work out why Jennie Kim has been signed up by both Chanel and Calvin Klein and is likely for many more fashion collaborations in the future. Although she has often been referred to as ‘Human Chanel,’ as Vogue Hong Kong says, her “style portfolio has included everything from Gucci and Saint Laurent to niche labels such as Marine Serre and Richard Quinn.”

Jennie Kim is a marketer’s dream as everything she wears, the consumer is going to want. When I saw photographs of her back in 2019 at the Chanel Women's Spring-Summer 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection fashion show at the Grand Palais in Paris, I wanted every item of her clothing!

It seems that she is already doing wonders for Calvin Klein…

Could we be seeing Jennie Kim following in Victoria Beckham’s footsteps and launching an eponymous fashion line in the near future? I wouldn’t be surprised, not at all!

And if music and fashion wasn’t enough for Jennie Kim, she will be making her acting debut in the HBO series The Idol, alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, under the stage name Jennie Ruby Jane.
