‘Dopamine dressing’ was starting to emerge in 2021 and became big news in 2022. According to Vogue in August 2021, the term ‘dopamine dressing’ “has become one of the biggest trends to emerge from the pandemic- a term used to describe the mood-boosting effect that fashion has.”

If you are worried that ‘dopamine dressing’ is old news in 2023, let me assure you that it is anything but. In fact wearing bright zingy colours such as yellow couldn’t be more fashionable at the moment and is a great way of beating both Blue Monday (today) and the winter blues.

Although it is more recently in Hollywood that actresses have been embracing yellow, it would seem that it is popular amongst royalty too. Kate Middleton wore a sunny yellow Karen Millen Midi Dress when she visited the Royal Surrey County Hospital in October of last year.

However, my all-time favourite Kate Middleton yellow dress has to be the Roksanda ‘Brigitte’ yellow dress she wore when she arrived in Jamaica on the couple’s royal tour of the Caribbean with Prince William in March 2022.

One needs to look no further than to see how yellow is the colour of the moment by looking at the recent red carpet appearances of actresses Michelle Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy. Michelle wore a vibrant yellow minidress at the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles at the Four Seasons Hotel recently.

This is not the first time Michelle Williams has embraced the colour yellow. She certainly seems to be a fan of dopamine dressing as her love of yellow can be traced as far back as 2006 (long before the colour was even a trend) when she wore a canary-yellow Vera Wang gown to the 2006 Academy Awards.

Anya Taylor-Joy is another star who appears to love the colour yellow and wore a Dior yellow two-piece outfit that consisted of a bandeau top with a floor-length wrap skirt to the Golden Globes 2023. It was very ‘now’ and definitely created a wow effect on the red carpet.

Like Michelle Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy seems to be a habitual yellow wearer and wore a Dior Haute Couture dress with a dramatic yellow shawl to the 2021 Emmys.

For those of you who are unsure if yellow is not for you, I couldn’t stress more about how I personally feel colour is a great mood lifter. When the weather is perennially dull and it is pouring rain outside, nothing makes me feel better than wearing a piece of brightly coloured clothing.
