The red carpet may not have been red (it was champagne), but this did not deter Hollywood from upping their glamour game atthe Oscars 2023. Without question, the Oscars is the highlight not only of the awards season, but it is also more often than not, has the best dresses.

There was plenty of white around and one could almost say that some of the gowns were bordering on bridal-think Michelle Yeoh in Dior, Emily Blunt in an off the shoulder Valentino, Michelle Williams in Chanel Couture and Rooney Mara in a vintage Alexander McQueen dress.

For those who love a bit of colour (and I include myself in that category), there were plenty of dresses on offer. I adored Cara Delevingne’s deep red one-shouldered Elie Saab gown while Kerry Condon looked super chic in a beautiful sunshine yellow Versace dress.

There was as to be expected plenty of black dresses too and with a bit of drama too. Lady Gaga certainly made sure all eyes were on her as she turned up on the champagne carpet in a sheer (very on trend!) black Versace gown.

The sheer fashion trend that has been dominating Hollywood recently showed no sign of abating at the Oscars last night.

Superstar Rihanna also opted for a sheer outfit and wowed in an Alaïa brown leather bra underneath a mesh top with a maxi skirt.

Rihanna’s outfit or outfits certainly did not disappoint. She actually arrived at the event in an Eagles T-shirt before changing into a first Alaïa outfit of the evening. For this year’s Oscars, Rihanna wore three outfits in total.

Here are PeopleWorld’s best dressed Oscar outfits

Rihanna in Alaïa

Wow! Rihanna certainly knows how to rock pregnancy style as she looked sensational in a sheer brown outfit that showed that brown is anything but boring. With her hair up in a bun, she chose a slick of red lipstick and accessorised with Moussaieff High Jewellery.

Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab

Cara’s outfit was definitely one of my favourites from the night. Perhaps it is because she opted for one of my go to colours, red? She looked simply stunning in an off the shoulder Elie Saab gown with a high split. She also wore Stuart Weitzman high heeled shoes and Bulgari jewellery.

Fan Bingbing in Tony Ward

Incredible is one word to describe Fan Bingbing’s exquisite silver and emerald gown by Tony Ward Couture. Although the dress itself was show stopping, what made it even more so was the emerald coloured shawl.

She also opted for emerald and diamond earrings, and a reportedly 20-carat ring by jeweller to the stars, Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry.

Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace

Although Lady Gaga wore a black gown, it certainly was anything but traditional. It was incredibly sheer which is of course the trend of the moment.

Lady Gaga accessorised with Tiffany & Co jewellery. She kept her eye make-up dramatic and like many stars, decided on a red lip.

Michelle Williams in Chanel Haute Couture

Michelle Williams chose bridal white with a touch of silver sequins for this year’s Oscars. She arrived at the event with her husband Thomas Kali. Michelle accessorised the strapless gown with a shimmering gown which added to the ethereal quality of the overall look.

Vanessa Hudgens in vintage Chanel

This was one of the first stars who I saw arrive at the Oscars last night and her outfit certainly did not disappoint.

It was very Audrey Hepburn-esque in terms of elegance. Vanessa chose a strapless black and white vintage Chanel dress that oozes sophistication.

Michelle Yeoh in Dior Haute Couture

Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh looked sensational in a pure white Dior Haute Couture gown. The dress featured a mesh neckline panel and feathers.

She completed the look with a diamond necklace and earrings and arrived at the event with longtime partner, Jean Todt.

Kerry Condon on Atelier Versace

Very chic, very simple, but very effective. Actress Kerry Condon looked super chic in a buttery yellow Atelier Versace gown.

Unlike many stars at the Oscars, she decided to wear her hair down which gave the overall look a romantic feel.

Emily Blunt in Valentino

British actress Emily Blunt may not have opted for colour at the Oscars, but her Valentino dress certainly did not disappoint. The figure-hugging off the shoulder white gown was incredibly chic. She chose a sleek updo and sparkling chandelier style earrings.

Paul’s outfit might not be a hit for everyone, but I thought he looked very on trend in his Gucci double breasted white jacket and flared black trousers. He accessorised with Cartier jewellery.
