Are male skirts set to be more than just a passing fashion trend?

If you can rock a blue pleated skirt anywhere, it has to be at Paris Fashion Week. ‘Emily in Paris’ heartthrob Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie in the hit Netflix show, created a wow effect by attending the Louis Vuitton autumn/winter menswear show at Paris Fashion Week in a look straight off the catwalk.
What made this all Louis Vuitton look even more ‘of the moment’ is the way he accessorised his outfit. The chain bracelet, green trainers and drop earring only enhanced rather than detracted from his effortlessly cool style.

When Brad Pitt was asked by Variety magazine why he wore a skirt to the premiere, he said: “We’re all going to die, so let’s mess it up.”
Although this statement by Brad appears a little dramatic, I take the words 'let's mess it up' more as a way of hitting back at fashion conventions. Why should an actor turn up to a premiere for example in a suit and trousers when he can turn up in a skirt or whatever he wants?
A$AP Rocky is another star who seems to have a penchant for wearing skirts. He was photographed around Manhattan last year in a hoodie and the piece de la resistance, a knee-length leather skirt.
A$AP Rocky, who has a child with Rihanna certainly shows that he is not afraid of pushing fashion boundaries and is definitely not keen on embracing ‘dad dressing’ anytime soon.

He wore a lace net skirt over his suit and it certainly didn’t look out of place on the red carpet. On the contrary, his look was very on point.
Other fans of the skirt include Billy Porter, basketball player Russell Westbrook and Dan Levy from Schitt’s Creek.
It will be interesting to see if the ‘skirt’ is simply a fashion fad or an enduring trend that lasts beyond 2023. Although at the moment it might be seen as ‘revolutionary’ and ‘fashion forward,’ perhaps it will be seen as the ‘norm’ in the coming years? Watch this space.
