The easiest way to update your summer wardrobe is by changing up your accessories, especially a nice new pair of new shoes. It will instantly update any outfit that has been worn over and over again.

So you can imagine I was extremely excited to hear there was a new must-have  ‘IT’ shoe trend loved by ‘quiet luxury aesthetic’ queen Sofia Richie-Grainge and Jennifer Lawrence - who also appears to be favouring the quiet luxury trend.

Ballet flats have long been a practical and stylish pair of shoes to wear and great news that they are back in style. However the new mesh ballet shoe, also referred to as fishnet ballerina’s is neither practical nor stylish.

The ALAÏA Mesh patent-leather ballet flats (£580) are the most coveted shoe right now. All stock is currently sold out of all sizes so it’s obviously very popular but I genuinely can’t understand why?

As I scan through the images of celebs wearing the shoe trend not one of them makes their feet look desirable. I mean feet aren’t great the best of the time but if I wear a pair of new shoes I at least want them to look cute and not like I’ve lost my shoes and had to construct a makeshift pair out of my string shopping.

Plus living in the UK ‘summer’ can be a tad wet sometimes so nipping out on what seems a sunny day may turn into a sudden downpour and your feet will be wet. Vogue claims “There’s No Debate, mesh ballet flats are the hottest shoe of the summer” I say you're wrong.

Jennifer Lopez recently stepped out wearing a pair of mesh flats from Christian Louboutin whilst Chrissy Teigen showed off her from The Row on Instagram. Despite the celebrity approval I still feel this shoe trend is a trend I won’t be backing.

Give me a classic Chanel quilted ballet flat (£800) with cute bow on the front or La Redoute’s two-tone version (£60) over a pair of mesh shoes any day.
