As Penélope Cruz is pictured at Chanel’s fashion show, a look at her association with the brand

As a long-term brand ambassador for Chanel, it was no surprise that actress Penélope Cruz attended their autumn/winter fashion show in Paris. Nor was it unexpected that she would of course be dressed in an unmistakable distinctive Chanel look, a tweed look mini coat dress with feathers.

It was also of no surprise when Penélope was picked by Chanel in 2018 to be a brand ambassador for them as she has the ability to wear classic fashion but with a slightly more fashion-forward edge, but by no means too fashion-forward.

Penélope has worn the designer brand on many occasions, but here are my top three Penélope Chanel dresses from over the years.

The Oscars 2020

Without exaggeration, Penélope Cruz’s Chanel outfit for the Oscars 2020 was worthy of its own award. In my mind, it was quintessentially Chanel and had all the elements you have come to expect when it comes to an outfit from this designer, it was black and white (very Chanel), it featured a string of pearls (very Chanel and more specifically Coco Chanel), and of course featured a camellia too, which is symbolic of the brand.

According to French Vogue, “A total of 230 hours of work and six full-time seamstresses were required to create this unique dress. The white camellia of the dress was designed in the workshops of the Maison Lemarie, the Chanel Metier d’art.”

The Met Gala 2019

Once again, Penélope Cruz’s Chanel dress for the Met Gala in 2019 featured some key design elements we have come to expect from the brand. Once again, the dress was black and white and featured a camellia as well as a bow. As she walked up the stairs, one was able to see the tiers of the dress which gave it more of a fashion-forward twist.

The British Fashion Awards 2018

There was no black and white nor camellias this time for Penélope Cruz’s Chanel dress at the British Fashion Awards 2018, but it still worked perfectly. The silver dress embellished with sequins looked was of the moment, yet still had that timeless appeal that is synonymous with the Chanel brand.
