Prada has entered into the beauty realm as it launches a makeup and skincare range; the luxury fashion brand is well known as a fragrance favourite, with Emma Watson as the face of the Paradoxe perfume, but now the brand is expanding. In June 2023, Prada announced K-Pop band ENHYPEN as their new brand ambassadors while they count model Hunter Schafer, actresses Scarlett Johansson and Leticia Wright, and NCT singer Jaehyun as ambassadors.

Chanel launched their beauty range in 1924 with Dior releasing theirs in 1947 - so why has it taken Prada so long? Well, it may be due to the previous failed attempt in 2000.

The Italian fashion house first launched a makeup range in 2000 but it was discontinued. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, co-creative directors of Prada, told WWD “Abandoning all the clichés of the past, we believe that beauty today is the representation of one’s personality, freedom and self-confidence."

The new makeup range consists of "Reveal" foundation driven by AI; 26 "Monochrome" matte lipsticks; "Dimensions" eyeshadows inspired by classic Prada prints, with their skincare range featuring "Augmented Skin" skincare products; brushes and tools. Prices range from a £37 lip balm to mega luxe £315 face and eye serum.

The collection looks as shiny and sleek as the fashion brand with its mirrored silver logo blazoned across all of the products. It’s the kind of makeup you will want to pull out of your cosmetics bag to show off to all your friends.

How does the price of Prada Beauty compare to other luxury brands?

Chanel's 'Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous' matte red lipstick and Dior’s 'Rouge Dior' lipstick will cost the same as the Prada Hyper Matte monochrome refillable lipstick £37.

When it comes to foundation, Prada's 'Reveal' is the most expensive at £49 with Dior 'Forever Skin' at £48 and Chanel 'Healthy Glow' the lowest at £47. Overall there is a few quid difference between the luxury brands you just have to decide if you're a French fashion house femme or an Italian fashion signora.

It may seem that Prada has a lot of catching up to do with these already successful beauty brands and with newcomers Balmain set to launch with Estée Lauder next year but we are sure they will be fine. Because just like me many people will be purchasing their beauty range as a way of being able to be part of the fashion houses without having to take out a mortgage for a handbag - Looking at your Hermès.

Where can I buy the new range from Prada Beauty?

The Prada Beauty range has launched today via Prada.com and will be available to buy from Selfridges and Harrods from August 18.
