Riley Keough dazzled on the red carpet in a plunging black dress and matching ‘opera style’ gloves at ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ premiere. This was her first appearance on the red carpet since the death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley.

Although her black dress and jade green earrings were very striking, it was once again the ‘opera style’ gloves that were of interest. Riley is the latest star to show her love for black ‘opera style’ gloves and follows in the footsteps of Kate Middleton who chose to wear them with her recycled Alexander McQueen gown at the Baftas 2023.

As to be expected, Kate Middleton looked nothing short of sensational in a recycled Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the Baftas 2023. However, what attracted the most attention when it came to her look were not the £18 Zara earrings, but the black opera style gloves she was wearing. They were certainly striking and demonstrated that the Princess of Wales is perfectly capable of embracing the latest fashion trends.

Kate Middleton is not the only star who is fond of opera style gloves. Anne Hathaway rocked a Valentino dress and a more sexy take on opera gloves by opting for black leather ones to the premiere of her new movie She Came to Me at the Berlin Film Festival Premiere.

Anya Taylor-Joy is another star who is fond of wearing opera style gloves in a rockier style. She may have got it wrong when it came to her outfit at the Baftas 2023, but she looked sensational for The Menu premiere in London. The 26-year-old Peaky Blinders star looked delectable in blue while wearing an Alexander McQueen dress for film premiere, with gloves to match.

Although Anya Taylor-Joy may be known for her regal performance in the Queen’s Gambit, she continues to match fashion royalty as she joins the likes of Madonna and Gigi Hadid by wearing opera gloves.

Opera gloves have been worn by celebrities for years, with Audrey Hepburn first making the long accessory glamorous when she appeared in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961 with the infamous black satin gloves paired with a tiara and pearls.

Hepburn’s character Holly Golightly dreamed of wealth and style, with her choice of satin gloves echoing those of the opera gloves worn to events by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in later years.

Similarly, the Queen of Pop became known for wearing long gloves evident from her performances on stage to red carpet looks.

With the trend changing over time from refined, sophisticated and elegant to sexy and alluring, so have the materials as shown by the Material Girl.

Latex, leather and lace are the predominant styles of opera gloves worn now by stars with Gigi Hadid wearing leather arm-length gloves to the 2021 Met Gala in New York City and Olivia Wilde pairing a latex set with a tiny dress at the LACMA Gala 2022.
