Met Gala: The most outrageous outfits of all time, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Zendaya

The Met Gala 2023 is here and this year's theme is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’ The late fashion designer will be honoured at this year's event with the Metropolitan Museum's exhibition which will feature around 150 pieces paired with Lagerfeld's original sketches.

Guests will dress in their interpretation of the theme and with the creative director for Chanel having a very distinctive look, we are expecting to see some very over-the-top outfits. 

The fashion event never disappoints when it comes to some of the most shocking looks. Here we take a closer look at some of the most outrageous looks of all time. 

Cara Delevingne looked stunning as she arrived at The Met Gala in a red satin Christian Dior suit with matching red platform shoes. But all was not as it seemed as she removed her jacket to reveal her bare body painted in gold and a pair of pasties covering her modesty.

Kim Kardashian will be attending for the tenth time this year and we can't wait to see how she will top last year's Marilyn Monroe dress. But we will never forget the year she wore the black bodysuit with face covering by Balenciaga. Even sister Kendall didn't know it was her behind the covering. 

Katy Perry loves a theme and makes it into this list three times for her crazy style. The singer dressed as a light up chandelier in an outfit made by Cute Circuit who specialise in wearable tech.

The year before Katy wore huge angel wings, gold mini dress and gold thigh high boots by Versace. The California Girls singer also famously wore an outfit that looked like a burger to the Met Gala after party. We love you Katy but maybe stay away from the fancy dress style.

Zendaya can never ‘usually’ do anything wrong when it comes to fashion, however, the Cinderella dress styled by Law Roach, who was the perfect fairy godmother waving his wand over the dress. The Tommy Hilfiger dress magically changed colour from grey to blue with led lights lighting up the dress. 

Kylie Jenner looked like she was getting married in her dress by Off-White with a backwards baseball cap veil. The beauty mogul did explain that the outfit was in honour of close friend and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh. 

Rihanna arrived with other half A$AP Rocky in coordinating oversized puffer coat style outfits. The couple looked as if they had their duvets wrapped round them. The Barbadian singer's black ensemble with beanie hat was designed by Balenciaga and A$AP’s multicoloured patchwork style was by ERL. 

Lady Gaga is never one to shy away from a shocking fashion outfit and she didn't disappoint when she wore an oversized fuchsia pink gown with matching bow in her hair by Brandon Maxwell. Pretty tame for Gaga until of course she stripped the dress and revealed multiple layers of outfits. 

After removing the pink gown the Born This Way singer revealed a black gown and then underneath that was a bodycon pink dress but it didn’t stop there……

In true Gaga style the singer went one more step and stripped down to black bra, pants and fishnets with platform boots as she walked the red carpet.

The model wore a figure hugging body suit that left little to the imagination by Alexander Wang when she attended the event knowing she would be bumping into her ex The Weeknd and his new girlfriend (at the time) Selena Gomez.
