Why were Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong'o amongst the best and worst dressed stars at the Tony Awards 2023?

Like every award ceremony, it should be about who won and who lost on the night, but if truth be known, and everyone is honest, most are more interested in the best and worst dressed stars (well I certainly am!). Jessica Chastain looked incredible in a sunshine yellow Gucci dress. According to Vogue, “Her caped dress was punctuated by the Italian label’s High Jewellery necklace made of white gold, emeralds, diamonds, and a 35.9-carat mandarin garnet.”
Another star who made it onto PeopleWorld’s best dressed list at the 2023 Tony Awards was Annaleigh Ashford who sparkled in a midnight blue strapless Oscar De La Renta dress. American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, who dazzled in a gold Valentino Haute Couture gown, was accompanied by her daughter Bee Shaffer.

Mrs Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan also looked ‘very of the moment’ in a dress from the Dua Lipa x Versace collection. The black and white polka dot dress featured butterflies on it.
Jodie Comer also looked elegant in a black strapless Thom Browne dress, but if I am brutally honest, I found it a little dull…
Now onto the worst dressed list….
Although Lupita Nyong’O made it to the best dressed list of some, she unfortunately is top of PeopleWorld’s worst dressed list. I love the chic stylish black suit she wore, but I am seriously not a fan of the silver cast of her own body by Misha Japanwala that she wore underneath it. I don’t agree that it was fashion forward, I think it was the antithesis of chic.
Other outfits that didn’t hit the fashion mark included actress Lily Rabe’s look, she opted for a blue and black Erdem dress with black leather opera gloves, it was a no from me! I also did not like Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe’s purple dress which featured a thigh high slit. I love the colour, but the dress was just too too much (again not in a good way!).

As for the dress chosen by the Some Like It Hot star J. Harrison Ghee, again, the colour was perfect, but the dress, with the gloves, high colour, and long train, featured too many details that didn’t work as a whole.
Erich Bergen should be applauded for trying to stand out in a sea of black suits, but unfortunately for him, his green suit does not deserve any fashion plaudits and simply merged into the leafy backdrop on the red carpet.
