An Indian fine-dining restaurant based in Cheltenham is hosting a five-course wine dinner in collaboration with Jean Frederic Hugel, a prominent winemaker from Alsace, France.

Taking place on Wednesday, February 19th, the evening will showcase a curated selection of wines from Hugel & Fils, paired with Prithvi's Indian and Asian-inspired dishes. The event’s special menu, which also features some dishes from the just released Prithvi cookbook, has been designed by Prithvi’s Head Chef, Thomas Law, to complement the distinctive flavours of the Hugel wines.

Throughout the evening, Jean Frederic Hugel will guide guests through each course, offering insights into the heritage and craftsmanship of his family’s estate in eastern France, which has been producing wines for nearly 400 years.

Guests are invited to try a selection of Prithvi’s signature dishes, paired with wines that include a selection of prestigious Rieslings, Gewürztraminers, and Pinot Gris, among others.

Jay Rahman, owner of Prithvi, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Jean Frederic Hugel for this special evening. We’re always looking to host events that provide unique dining experiences. Jean’s knowledge of Alsace wines and his family’s long history in winemaking brings a unique perspective that will make our wine dinner a memorable experience.”

Founded in 1639 in Riquewihr, Alsace, Hugel & Fils is run by the 12th generation of the Hugel family. Their 30-hectare estate mainly cultivates Alsace’s noble grape varieties, with vines averaging 35 years old. As members of the Primum Familiae Vini, the family focuses on the region’s unique terroir and microclimate, producing dry and sweet aromatic wines with complex flavours that are perfectly suited to Indian and Asian cuisines.

Prithvi is renowned for its seasonal menus that blend traditional and contemporary influences, with a focus on balanced flavours and presentation.
