John Lewis 20% off sale: 10 home and furniture deals even Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds might be tempted by
For most people, the prospect of grabbing a John Lewis bargain is an exhilarating one.
But for Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds, a home full of the popular retailer’s homeware is apparently something from a bad dream.
It has emerged that the pair allegedly renovated the Downing Street flat to replace Theresa May’s “John Lewis furniture nightmare”, drafting in eco interior designer Lulu Lytle to transform their living space into a “high-society haven”.
The Electoral Commission has now launched a formal investigation into the funding of the No 11 refurbishment.
Labour’s shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth seemed baffled by the John Lewis claims when he appeared on Sky News.
He said: "We know he [Mr Johnson] wanted to upgrade his flat because he didn't think John Lewis furniture was good enough.
"I think John Lewis furniture is pretty good actually, pretty posh stuff.”
Social media users seem to be on the same page as Mr Ashworth, with some scarcely believing that anyone could be snobby about John Lewis, which has long since been regarded as relatively posh.
That’s why the retailer’s current 20 per cent off home sale has so many people talking.
Here are 10 John Lewis bargains that even Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds would be tempted by:

1. John Lewis & Partners Curved Large 3 Seater Sofa, £759
This wee number does what it says on the tin - it’s curved, comfy-looking and the emerald-green hue is very “in” in interior design circles, our sources tell us. Also, this is a huge discount down from over £1,000. Photo: John Lewis

2. Harlequin Takara Cushion, £32
Add a splash of colour to your living room with this eye-catching cushion. No one really needs a new cushion, but when it looks like a piece of art and there’s money off it’s incredibly tempting. Photo: John Lewis

3. Parker Knoll Fitzrovia Armchair, £799.20
Quite frankly, a blush-pink armchair is an absolute home essential that would give any boring old corner a new lease of life. Just think about relaxing with a good book in this seat. Wonder if Theresa May had the same one? Photo: John Lewis

4. MINDTHEGAP Amazonia Square Cushion, £87.20
We’re not really sure how the Prime Minister and his fiancee allegedly turned their noses up at John Lewis when one cushion costs more than £87 - and that’s in the sale. Still, this is a beautiful, tropical design sure to impress any post-Covid guests. Photo: John Lewis
