Across the UK, you can find an endless list of locations with some rather questionable names (like Shitterton, Butthole Lane, Assloss and Fannyfield, to name a few).

One man is taking it upon himself to visit as many of these places as possible on a tour of the UK in a bid to raise money for The Institute of Cancer Research.

This is what you need to know - and a list of some of the rudest names you might not believe are real places in the UK.

Who is touring rude sounding place names in the UK?

Paul Taylor, a man from Wantage, Oxfordshire, is embarking on a 1,800 mile tour of the UK on a 50cc moped, visiting places around the country with rude or funny sounding names.

Taylor is taking on the journey as part of a charity fundraising trip in memory of his friend, Alexis Leventis, who passed away from cancer.

On his Just Giving page, Taylor said: “The expedition will take place in August 2021 and starts in Shitterton in Dorset on the 18th and winds its way through salubriously named places such as Happy Bottom Nature Reserve, Ass Hill, Crazies Hill, Pishill, The Knob, Titty-Ho, Willey, Butthole Lane, Pensitone, Netherthong, Slack Bottom Road, Bedlam, Crackpot (I think I may have lived there in a past life), Booze (there too), Pity Me (by this point you really should), Cocksburnspath, Wallyford, Brawl (and many others) before we arrive at the charmingly titled Twatt in the Orkney Isles.”

He says that his choice of transport is a Slovenian Tomos XL45 Classic, which means that he can expect to reach top speeds of 20mph during his tour.

All proceeds from his fundraising efforts will be donated to The Institute of Cancer Research.

“I was sick of cancer taking the lives of so many wonderful people and felt I had to do something to help beat this awful disease,” Taylor said.

He added: “ I talked about my plans for this trip with [Alexis] and he thought it was funny and a bit mad, I think he would be surprised I was actually daft enough to go through with it!”

Taylor will be posting updates on his journey on his Just Giving page, and on his Instagram (@moronicmopedmarathon).

As of publication, Taylor has raised nearly £14,000 which is well beyond his initial goal of £1,800.
