5. Bali, Indonesia
The sun shines for 12 hours a day and the temperature averages 29C, Bali is the headspace to start the new year. Offering an assortment of activities, you could trek to see the Tegenungan Waterfall, unwind on the beach, or enrol in a wellness clinic. January does see some mosquitoes, and the occasional downpour, but the destination offers a boosting escape.

The average temperature in Sydney is 27.4C in January, where you can enjoy eight hours of sunshine. However, there is a high chance of rain, but the weather is more likely to be refreshing. Sydney is known for its world-renowned Opera House and Harbour Bridge and sits in the southeast corner of Australia. With its golden beaches, there are plenty of things to do during your trip.

In the Canary Islands sits Tenerife, the largest and most populated of the islands. The north and the south offer different climates, with the latter being hotter and drier. The islands reach a daily maximum of 21.1C through the month of January, with six hours of sunshine offered. It is a popular place for travellers, with the Canary Islands not short of leisure activities to do - such as wandering around the volcanic landscapes, visiting old towns or just strolling along the beaches. Located on the south-east coast of Mexico, Cancun experiences a year-round tropical climate, making it very popular with tourists. Perfect for a beach holiday, the water is warm and the rainfall is low. With an average temperature of 30.5C, it is a perfect way to escape those new year blues - especially as January is one of the drier months. Cancun offers more than just a pretty site, visitors can explore ancient Maya ruins, or visit Chichen Itza - one of the seven wonders of the world. There is something for everyone in Cancun.
