Tom Cruise's death defying Mission: Impossible stunt reminds us of some of the most dangerous of all time

Hollywood daredevil Tom Cruise is showing no signs of slowing down while filming the latest instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The actor, 60, has completed what he regards as the most dangerous stunt of his career for ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One’.

In a clip shared on social media, the actor reveals how the stunt is “the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted.”

The scene will see Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt perform a motorcycle jump off a cliff and into a base jump.

It has been reported that Cruise had to undergo a year of base training to prepare for the death defying jump and he also completed more than 500 skydives and 13,000 motocross jumps to be as prepared as possible.

The stunt certainly isn’t one for the faint-hearted and it isn’t the first time Cruise has risked it all for the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building which is why you definitely would not want to be hanging off the side of it.

For the 2011 instalment of the film franchise, Cruise was strapped in a harness as he ran down the side of the building vertically.

Despite initial friction from insurers over the stunt, Cruise performed it anyway in the action movie.

Yes. He really did.

In 2015’s Mission: Impossible film, Cruise attached himself to the side of an Airbus A400M as it flew over England.

He even had to wear special contact lenses as it is effectively (Mission) impossible to keep your eyes open at those speeds.

The Man With the Golden Gun - 360 car stunt

Although the film was largely panned by fans and critics, The Man with The Golden Gun contains a very memorable car stunt.

A twisted, destroyed bridge stood in the way of Roger Morre’s 007 and villain Scaramanga.

Here, stunt driver Loren Willert completed a 360-degree car jump so Bond’s AMC Hornet could cross the river.

True Lies - Jamie Lee Curtis

James Cameron’s 1994 film True Lies saw Jamie Lee Curtis perform a terrifying stunt in the film’s finale.

The actress was rescued by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character from a limousine heading for water as he hung from a helicopter.

And for this scene, it was the real Jamie Lee Curtis hanging on for dear life.
