The former One Direction star took to the stage to a thunderous applause which included ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. While accepting the award Styles thanked his fellow nominees in the speech including Beyoncé, Adele, Brandi Carlile and others for inspiring his music.

He said: “Man, I’ve been so, so inspired by every artist in this category with me. A lot of different times in my life, I listened to everyone in this category when I’m alone. “I feel like on nights like tonight, there is no such thing as ‘best in music.’

He added: “I don’t think any of us sit in the studio making decisions based on what’s gonna get us one of these. This is really really kind … this doesn’t happen to people like me very often, and this is so nice, thank you very much.”

As well as taking home the biggest award of the night, Styles also collected awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, meaning he took home three of the six awards he was nominated for. The singer also brought the house down with a stellar performance of his hit single ‘As It Was’ that had everyone on their feet.

The Grammys have a way of surprising people, and this year’s event was no different. From Beyonce breaking the record and becoming the most decorated artist in history after winning her 32nd Grammy ever for best dance/electronic album with “Renaissance”.

One of the most surprising wins of the night was Bonnie Raitt who took home the award for “Song of The Year” for her song “Just Like That”.  It was her third award of the night, and was shocked when name was called.

Raitt accepted the honour from First Lady Jill Biden and told the crowd: “I’m so surprised I don’t know what to say. This is just an unreal moment.” She thanked the Recording Academy for their support and for “the art of songwriting like I do.”

Raitt continued: “I was so inspired for this song by the incredible story of the love and the grace and the generosity of someone that donates their beloved’s organs to help another person live, and this story was so simple and so beautiful for these times and people have been responding to this song partly because of how much I love and we all love John Prine, and that was the inspiration for the music of this song, telling a story from the inside. I don’t write a lot of songs but I’m so proud that you appreciate this one.”

Jazz singer Samara Joy took home a surprising and well deserved win for Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammys as well. Joy seemed truly speechless when she took to the stage to accept her award. She was up against nominees that included Anitta, Omar Apollo, DOMi & JD Beck, Muni Long, Latto, Maneskin, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle and Wet Leg.

She said: “I’ve been watching y’all on TV for so long.” Before speaking directly to the artists in the room, saying how inspiring each and every person in the room is to her. “To be here because of who I am, authentically just being myself. I am so thankful.”
