Is Mick Jagger part of the new generation of TikTok Granfluencers?

Brace yourself TikTokers. Sir Mick Jagger has joined TikTok at the age of 79, alongside his band The Rolling Stones. Variety have said that they are “angling to introduce a new generation of music fans to the 60-year old British rock band and its classic tunes.”

Fellow band members Keith Richards (@officialkeef) joined TikTok last year and Mick Jagger is now on the platform (@jagger). According to TikTok themselves, “The Rolling Stones have officially joined TikTok (@TheRollingStones), enabling creators from around the world to access their full music catalogue on the platform. They go on to say that “for the first time, the TikTok community will be able to use the band's iconic tracks in their video creations.”

Now, for those of you who are on the platform and think there is no place for 79 year olds on a platform that is universally known to be popular among teens and Gen Z users, think again. It would seem that this is no longer the case and there are a growing number of ‘Granfluencers’ who are taking over.

What is a Granfluencer?

It is pretty self explanatory, a Granfluencer is basically a person of senior years who is an influencer on social media. One such example of a highly successful ‘older’ TikTok star is @cookingwithlynja (Lynn Yamada Davis) who has 14.9 million followers. According to Forbes, "when her videographer son uploaded a special-effect-laden video of her making a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich to TikTok in July 2021, she blew up.”

Another Granfluencer to follow in TikTok is @grandadjoe1933. According to TikTok Grandpa Joe, who is Joe Allington, first got into TikTok thanks to his granddaughter Brooke. “He lives with his daughter Wendy who got him on the TikTok app after noticing how popular his granddaughter @brookepaintain’s videos were that featured him.”

Joe Allington is a seriously impressive Granfluencer as he currently has six million followers on the platform. His humorous videos (often featuring his granddaughters), are described in his bio as ‘family friendly content’ and it is fairly obvious why he has amassed such an incredible amount of followers.
