Amber Gibson: man in court charged with attempting to defeat ends of justice after death of Hamilton teen

A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice in connection with the death of Amber Gibson.

Stephen Corrigan, 43, appeared in private at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Last month, Amber’s brother Connor Gibson appeared at the same court charged with murdering and sexually assaulting her as well as attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Amber, 16, left her home in the Hillhouse area of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at about 9.15pm on Friday, 26 November and was reported missing later that night, her body was found on the Sunday.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Corrigan of Blantyre, made no plea.

The case for committed for further examination and he was remanded in custody. He is expected to appear again within the next week.

Amber’s body was discovered in the town’s Cadzow Glen park at about 10.10am on Sunday, 28 November.

She was last seen in Cadzow Street around 9.55pm, before her body was discovered in the park.

The teenager was a pupil at Moore House Academy in Bathgate, West Lothian, which is privately run and cares for children aged 11 to 18 who have faced social and educational challenges.

Speaking after Amber’s death a spokesperson from Moore House described her as “a well-loved, bright and lively young girl”.
