The 4x4 driver was captured on mobile phone footage reversing at speed and slamming into the front of the police car in the early hours of Thursday.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the wrecked vehicle as it was shunted back several metres before the suspect drove off at speed along the street at 1am.

Two officers then jump from the vehicle while the driver escapes along the residential road in Lea Village, Birmingham, with their hazard lights flashing.

The footage, obtained by Birmz Is Grime, has since been shared and viewed thousands of times since being uploaded to social media.

‘Looks like something from Grand Theft Auto’

One web user commented: "Looks like something from Grand Theft Auto. That's just crazy man."

Another added: "That's one way to get away from them, luckily the officers don't look too injured as that could have been a lot worse."

A third said: "Nobody has respect for the law these days. Could have killed themselves or the police. Crazy stuff."

Another wrote: "That has got to hurt, the driver was doing some speed there. They will be in serious trouble if they get caught."
