Dad stabbed to death after ‘defending daughter from group of boys who were harassing her’

A dad has been stabbed to death in north London after defending his daughter from a group of boys who were harassing her, it has been claimed.

The victim - named as Jamie Markham, 45 - was set upon by a group of boys in Chingford, north London, according to witnesses.

Police were called at 6.20pm on Monday night (9 August) to reports of a disturbance in Churchill Terrace, Chingford Mount, where they found Jamie suffering with stab wounds.

London Ambulance Service paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, which has now been cordoned off as police launched a murder probe.

His wife is said to have been screaming when she found Jamie fatally wounded outside, reports MyLondon.

His next of kin have now been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Resident Susan White said: "He was a quiet family man with three kids who kept himself to himself.

"It was devastating hearing his wife screaming like that last night."

Another neighbour, Sandra Green, added: "He was no trouble at all, just got on with everything and was a kind, family man.

"We're all in shock, you assume it's teenagers who get involved in this but when it's a family man you just can't believe it."

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation, but no arrests have yet been made.

Officers at the scene said: “The investigation is in the very early stages.

“We are carrying out a number of witness and CCTV enquiries to establish what has taken place.”
