The 15 areas in England with the most people testing positive as Covid positivity rate increases

Positivity rates have been creeping up in every region of England after a period of decline, rising to almost 7% – but which areas are most affected?

Covid infections are slowly increasing across England, with the latest government data showing high test positivity rates across the country.

Every region in England saw an increase in test positivity – the proportion of people tested who get a positive result – in the week to 23 September.

On average, 6.9% of people tested got a positive result, up from 5.9% a week earlier.

The latest figures reveal 266 councils are above the maximum 5% level given by the World Health Organisation to determine whether the pandemic is under control.
