Lynda Obst dead at 74: Hollywood producer dies after health battle as stars such as Glen Powell pay tribute

The well-regarded Hollywood star, who helped bring hits such as ‘Sleepless In Seattle’ and ‘Interstellar’ to the screen, passed away after a battler with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She passed away at her home in Los Angeles, California.

Hide AdObst previously worked as an editor at The New York Times before turning her talents to Hollywood in the 1980s. She collaborated with fellow producer Debra Hill on multiple projects, before setting up her own company in the noughties.
Obst, who was celebrated as a champion for women in the industry, worked on the Ricky Gervais-led film ‘The Invention of Lying’, which has released in 2009. In 2014, she worked with Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan on the sci-fi blockbuster ‘Interstellar’, which was the first film released with credit to Lynda Obst Productions.
Oly Obst, Lynda’s son, said in a statement: "My mom was a trailblazer and a fierce advocate for women. Also, she was an amazing mother, sister and best friend. [My wife] Julie and I are incredibly grateful that she was my mom and that my daughters got to have her as a grandmother. We will miss her."

A true trailblazer who never missed an opportunity to help me learn. I’d often get to drive her home from the office and witnessed someone who took in everything. To her, the entire world was a great story ripe for the making. RIP."
