Actress Amy Schumer shocked the star-studded audience at the Oscars 2022 by making a joke about iconic Hollywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio minutes after she opened the ceremony.

Schumer wasn’t the only one who found herself at the centre of some controversy during the event.

This year’s awards ceremony saw actor Will Smith hit comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

But, what exactly did Amy Schumer say about Leonardo DiCaprio and his relationships, and who is he dating now?

Actress and stand-up comedian Amy Schumer hosted this year’s Oscars alongside fellow actresses Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

The trio opened the 94th Academy awards by making jokes aimed at actors JK Simmons and Samuel L Jackson.

Schumer was then left on stage on her own and started talking about dark comedy Don’t Look Up, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and was nominated for four Oscars.

She said: “Leonardo DiCaprio, what can I ever say about him? He’s done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends.”

There was a pause while the audience took the joke in, and some laughs and gasps could be heard, before Schumer clarified the meaning behind it, saying “because he’s older and they’re younger. Okay, you get it.”

As confirmed by Schumer, the joke was referencing the fact that the 47-year-old actor is known for dating women who are much younger than him.

Who is Leonardo DiCaprio dating now, and what is his dating history?

The Titanic and Wolf of Wall Street actor is currently dating actress and model Camila Morrone, who is 24.

The pair, who have a 22-year age gap, were first linked in December 2017.

Two years later, DiCaprio famously found himself at the centre of a meme when he was photographed snapping images of his girlfriend as she posed like a ballerina at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

At the time, Andrew Gruttadaro, Senior editor of sports, pop and culture website and podcast network The Ringer, captioned the image with the words “You either die a hero or you live long enough to become an Instagram boyfriend” and it went viral.

Later in 2019, Camila gave an interview to Vanity Fair in which she said she’d seen the meme and commented “poor thing, he’s being called an Instagram boyfriend. He’s an environmentalist and a movie star and it doesn’t mean a thing.”

The couple rarely make public appearances together, but were spotted earlier this month walking around New York City.

And it’s not just his relationship with Morrone that has captured the world’s attention. In fact, Dicaprio’s girlfriends seem to be getting progressively younger as he approaches 50.

Camila Morrone is an American model and actress. She made her acting debut in James Franco’s film Bukowski in 2013.

She has most recently starred in upcoming mini series Daisy Jones & The Six, based on the 2019 book of the same name.
