The sight of Zara Tindall appearing at the end of the bridge on I’m a Celebrity seemed at first a little incongruous. After all, it is almost impossible to forget that Zara is the granddaughter of the late Queen.

However, for a split second, millions of viewers watching the show as I did almost forget. Dressed in a denim playsuit, Zara looked like every other ‘celebrity partner’ as they were reunited with their loved one. When she embraced Mike with a tight hug, the emotional close connection between the pair was evident for all to see.

Zara and Mike Tindall are undoubtedly a huge part of the new generation of royals who are keen to show that they ‘are in touch’ with the public. Instead of keeping themselves away from the other contestants after Mike exited the jungle, the couple were on the contrary only too happy to be a part of the celebrations with the rest of the campmates.

Zara’s relatability factor was very much in evidence when she hugged runner up Owen Warner. There was no evidence of any awkwardness between the two (despite the fact that Owen had asked Mike if Zara was Australian).

On the contrary, Zara was only too happy to embrace Owen at the hotel when he arrived victorious as runner-up from the jungle. This is further evidence of the unstuffy nature of both Zara and husband Mike.

Another example that demonstrates Zara and Mike Tindall’s down to earth personalities is that no sooner than they were reunited, then it became all about the children. There seemed to be no nanny in evidence when the couple spent a day out together with their family at Sea World.

The family outing came after Mike revealed on Good Morning Britain that Zara had broken a rule they had agreed upon before he entered the camp. The couple had agreed that it wouldn’t be her who would write a letter to him when the campmates were allowed to hear from a loved one.

However, it was Zara who ended up writing to him. ”She was sneaky on me. She was a sneaky little one. She was there so it got me a little bit that,” he said. The use of the word ‘sneaky’ again demonstrates the close unstuffy relationship between the pair.

It has been speculated in the past that perhaps much of Zara’s ‘down to earth’ nature can be attributed to the fact that she and her brother Peter do not have titles. In Vanity Fair in 2020, Princess Anne reflected on her decision. “I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles… So I think that was probably the right thing to do.”

It would seem that thanks to Princess Anne, it has definitely been the ‘right thing to do’ when it comes to her daughter Zara’s relatability factor.
