While the royal family and attendees will don their smartest and most sophisticated outfits for Saturday’s coronation in Westminster Abbey, Camilla’s grandson will also be sporting an unlikely accessory.

The Queen Consort’s 13-year-old grandson Gus, who is participating in the ceremony as a one of the Pages of Honour alongside his twin Louis and cousin Freddy Parker-Bowles, broke his arm in the weeks leading up to the event so will be wearing a sling.

Gus was spotted earlier in the week for rehearsals at Buckingham Palace cradling his arm after breaking it in a bike accident on holiday. A source stated that although Laura Lopes’ son has had the cast removed, he ‘must have it in a sling on the big day’.

The setback comes as Gus, Louis and Freddy are expected to carry Camilla’s coronation robes as she heads down the aisle to be crowned Queen Camilla alongside King Charles III.

However, this is not the first time a member of the Royal family has sported an injury at an engagement.

King Charles himself once had to make himself a DIY eye-patch at an outing in 2001 after getting a large amount of dust in his eye from cutting down a tree. His Majesty had to undergo treatment and was then instructed to wear a white plaster over his left eye.

Gus could also take comfort in the fact that the then Prince Charles had to wear a sling for a period of time after injuring himself at a polo match in Cirencester in 1990, while his own grandmother Camilla arrived to royal engagements in a wheelchair in 2010 following a walking trip in Balmoral where she broke her leg.

Royal fans may remember a 16-year-old Prince William being bandaged up in 1999 at the christening of his godson Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece, as he had surgery on his finger shortly before the event.

While we all look to the coronation this Saturday, the late Prince Philip prepared himself for one of the other major royal events namely Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle, where he sported a broken rib but used no walking aid.

Strength ran in the family in addition to style as lastly the late Queen Elizabeth always chose to match her outfits with her injuries. For reference, in 1994, Elizabeth made a sling out of purple silk scarf to cradle her bandaged hand and when she walked with a crutch at engagements before keyhole surgery to her knee in 2003.
