A look at Ella Irwin's net worth as Elon Musk loses second Twitter head of trust and safety

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, there have been calls that the social media platform is going down like a sinking ship considering that it is now only worth a third of what the Tesla CEO paid for.

If you also factor in the numerous changes to staff be it Elon hiring a new CEO or 75% of the workers being fired in the early stages to cut down on costs, among the rising hate speech on the platform and constant criticism of Elon’s leadership, the question remains how long can he hold the fort for?

The topic of hate speech and harmful content on the platform has been an ongoing worry, one which is supposed to be managed by Twitter’s head of trust and safety.

However, this position has never been filled for longer than a year under Elon’s reign, with the initial head of trust and safety Yoel Ruth leaving the company after clashing with the SpaceX founder about his ‘hands-off approach to content moderation’ and her successor Ella Irwin now resigning too.

Ella Irwin confirmed that she had left the post to Reuters and the Wall Street Journal and while her reasoning may be unclear, it falls at a time where drama surrounds Twitter as advertisers pull out of deals as they are wary of unsuitable content.

It must also be noted that Ella previously worked for Twitter from June to October 2022 when Elon took over, before she convinced to come back in the new role.

Who is Ella Irwin?

Born in Seattle, Washington, Ms Irwin has an impressive CV when it comes to establishing and maintaining trust within consumers having worked for the likes of Google and Amazon prior to Twitter in November 2022.

A previous employee of Amazon stated that they, “have not had a director as smart or cutthroat as Ella,” while praising her attention to detail.

According to her LinkedIn, Ella studied at both the California Lutheran University and the Golden Gate University gaining a Masters in Strategic Management.

Although Ella’s salary and net worth are not available online at time of writing, the average salary for an executive at Twitter is around $212,000 a year but the highest paid VPs of the social media platform could earn as much as $9 million per annum.
