When I watched Gemma Owen in Love Island, I was immediately struck by her incredible maturity. It was hard to believe that she was only 19 years old as she was offering words of wisdom that seemed far beyond her age to fellow cast members.

If the rumours are to be believed, Gemma is reportedly set to star in a Kardashians style reality show, alongside her former footballer dad, Michael Owen. This news didn’t surprise me as it is clearly evident that Gemma is a very ambitious young woman.

Gemma has even spoken about her admiration for Kylie Jenner in the past and how she would love to become as successful as her in the future.

Speaking about the Kardashians, Gemma has said that she really likes them and follows them on social media. “I think they are all good, powerful business women, what they have made for themselves is really inspiring,” she revealed. “I’m a massive fan. Who wouldn’t like to be a billionaire like Kylie?”

Although Gemma has a long way to go to be as successful as Kylie Jenner, there are obvious similarities between the pair. Gemma and Kylie not only physically look similar, but Kylie (like Gemma) also shares a maturity far beyond her age.

Like Gemma, Kylie has grown up in the spotlight and first appeared in Keeping Up With the Kardashians at the very tender age of 10. She has literally grown up in the public eye and has addressed how this hasn’t been easy for her at times. “I’m proud of myself, my heart, and my strength, growing up in the light with a million eyes on you just isn’t normal…”she said in a social media post on her Instagram a few years ago.

Kylie and Gemma also both grew up with a famous sportsman father, Kylie’s dad (now Caitlyn) was then Bruce Jenner, who was a famous decathlete who won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. Gemma’s dad is Michael Owen, who played for Liverpool, Manchester United, and England.

Gemma is also very family orientated like Kylie. She lives in the small Welsh village of Northop, near Mold, with her parents, Louise and Michael Owen and siblings, James MIchael, 16, Emily May 14, and Jessica 12.

In an interview with Tatler magazine, Gemma reveals that she seeks her mum's approval for lots of things. “I go to my mum for everything. I just give her a little look. And she’ll nod her head. And I just know, “Yeah Ok, I’m doing fine.”

Kylie Jenner also enjoys a close relationship with her mum, Kris Jenner, who has had an instrumental role in guiding her childrens’ careers and is famously known as a ‘momager.’ She reportedly trademarked the term in 2019.

Although Gemma Owen is clearly not at the same level of entrepreneurship as Kylie Jenner, she did start her own swimwear business (OG Beachwear) before entering the Love Island villa.

She revealed on the website that she has “always been ambitious and from a very young age I have represented Great Britain in their equestrian dressage teams with the unwavering support from my parents, particularly my mother and best friend, Louise.”

Gemma also recently signed a reportedly six-figure deail with clothing brand PrettyLittleThing, following in the footsteps of Molly-Mae Hague.

Gemma Owen may not have reached the dizzying heights of success and fame that Kyle Jenner has yet, but yet is the operative word. As Gemma is clearly very ambitious, I would underestimate her at your peril. Watch this space!
