Tyre pulling is not something that you would necessarily associate with a royal, but Kate Middleton demonstrated that she is quite the action girl today at Landau Forte College in Derby. She was patron of Captain Chandi’s expedition across Antarctica and joined the Captain, dubbed ‘Polar Preet’ to celebrate her return from her solo expedition across Antarctica.

Captain Preet Chandi MBE broke the world record for the furthest unsupported solo polar ski expedition in history after covering 922 miles in 70 days and 16 hours. Captain Preet and Kate’s visit to the college, which is in the Captain’s hometown, is the beginning of the Army officer’s UK-wide tour of schools. During her visits, she will talk through her adventures with school children.

At Landau Forge College in Derby, Kate was happy to try her hand at tyre pulling and said: “I need to do some training.” She joined other students who took part in other activities to bring to life some of the experiences Captain Chandi experienced during her expedition.

This is not the first time Kate has shown her action girl prowess and was dubbed Lara Croft when she dressed in khaki trousers for a Belize outing and took part in jungle skills and scaling a Mayan ‘sky palace.’ One royal fan said: “This is some Lara Croft and Indiana Jones energy.”

In September 2021, Kate once again showed her action girl prowess when she tried abseiling during a visit to the Lake District. After mountain biking with a group of cadets, she abseiled down a cliff during her action-packed visit.

She joined Sir Ben to take on New Zealand in a race for the Commonwealth Games and helped lead the team to victory. Sir Ben was clearly impressed with Kate’s sailing prowess and said: “She’s a really good sailor in her own right.”
