British-Canadian fashion designer Erdem Moralıoğlu may not be a household name, but his label Erdem has not only become both a fashion industry favourite, but is also beloved by the royals too. Kate Middleton showed her love for the label at the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey where she wowed in an Erdem skirt suit.

Meghan Markle is also a big fan of Erdem and her love for the designer label reportedly started long before she met Prince Harry.

According to The Telegraph, “Erdem Moralıoğlu was one of Meghan’s absolute favourites, but even after Harry had put a ring on it, Kate, who was already a client, continued to get priority.”

Kate Middleton has worn Erdem on many occasions over the years, including a chic grey dress that she teamed with purple shoes to attend the opening of the V & A Photography Centre at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2018. She also wore the Shebah Floral Cotton Silk Gown by Erdem for the opening of the Chelsea Flower Show in London in 2019.

Although Meghan Markle wore Erdem before marrying Prince Harry, she also wore the label after they wed too, but reportedly not as often as before. When she was expecting her first child, Prince Archie, she wore an Erdem green tweed empire line dress for her first Commonwealth Day engagement at Canada House in London in March 2019. Later that day, she wore a white Erdem coat over a Victoria Beckham dress to the Commonwealth Day Service.

Meghan also wore a black Erdem dress which was very 1950s in style to the Festival of Remembrance performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London in November 2019.

It is interesting that Kate Middleton decided to wear Erdem again  to the 2023 Commonwealth Day Service as Meghan had chosen the same designer back in 2019.

Perhaps now that Meghan is no longer a working royal, Kate wants to reestablish her love for the designer by wearing his latest designs for royal engagements?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with exactly who Erdem Moralıoğlu is and the style of his label Erdem, the designer was born and brought up in Montreal, Canada, but is now based in London.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Erdem explained that whilst he was at the Royal College of Art, he interned for Vivienne Westwood. “I then started my own business right after graduation which was quite a risk, but 15 years later, one I am very happy I took,” he said in 2020.
