Although the A-list Hollywood stars were in attendance at the Baftas 2023, the star of the show was undoubtedly Kate Middleton. She wowed in a white Alexander McQueen gown that she had first worn to the event back in 2019. She accessorised the slightly altered dress this time with black opera gloves, very on trend, and £18 Zara earrings.

Kate Middleton has certainly mastered the art of red-carpet dressing over the years and more recently, shown that she is determined to be more sustainable by opting for a rented gown rather than a new one. This was nowhere more evident than when she wore a stunning green Solace London dress that she rented from Hurr for the second annual Earthshot Prize in Boston last December.

When it comes to Kate Middleton’s BAFTA dresses over the years, she has tended to favour designers Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen. One of the prettiest gowns she has chosen to wear for the BAFTAs has to be the Alexander McQueen off-the-shoulder dress she wore to the 2017 awards.

In case you think you might have seen this 2017 Alexander McQueen dress more than once, you would be right in your assumption. Kate Middleton upcycled the dress by adding cap sleeves and altering the neckline for the National Portrait Gallery Gala in 2019.

For the 2018 BAFTAs, Kate Middleton was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis, and wore a Jenny Packham deep green dress. At the time, Kate was criticised for wearing green as stars like Margot Robbie and Angelina Jolie wore black gowns to make a statement in the Time’s Up movement. However eagle-eyed fashion observers would have noted the black belt (clearly a nod to the movement).

It was at the BAFTAs in 2019 that Kate first wore this bridal style white off-the-shoulder gown designed especially for her by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. In order not to detract from the simplicity of the dress, she wore her hair up for the night.

The theme of the 2020’S BAFTAs was ‘recycle, sustainable or vintage,’ so Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen white and gold dress that she had previously worn while on a royal tour of Malaysia in 2012. Kate Middleton wore her hair up again for the event as she did in 2019.

Kate Middleton and Prince William did not attend the BAFTAs in 2021 as Prince William’s grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh, had passed away the day before. Last year, the couple did not attend due to ‘diary constraints.’
