With all the furore surrounding Prince Harry and his interviews promoting his memoir Spare, it is easy to forget how this must be impacting King Charles. Not only has he had to contend with losing his mother last September and adjusting to life as the new King, but he now has to deal with how Prince Harry’s revelations are potentially not only damaging the monarchy but more importantly, their father/son relationship.

Whilst watching the ITV Tom Bradby interview with Prince Harry, I was struck by (naive as it may be) Harry’s words: “Forgiveness is 100% a possibility. I would like to get my father back. I would like to get my brother back.”

Prince Harry by his own admission refers to his “post traumatic injury” in the interview after losing his mother so tragically at the age of 12. He then went on to speak about his father and revealed regarding single parenthood that “Pa was never made for that.”

However, the most poignant point of the interview was when Prince Harry was discussing a meal he had with his father at Highgrove when he was discussing everything he had gone through and King Charles said: “I should have got you the help you needed years ago.”

Despite all of this, it would seem that until relatively recently King Charles and Prince Harry have enjoyed a close relationship. After all, King Charles was the one who walked Meghan Markle down the aisle after she asked him to due to her own father not attending.

Meghan spoke about this in the second instalment of the Netflix 'Harry & Meghan' docuseries. In the programme, Meghan said: 'Harry's dad is very charming and I said to him, 'I've lost my dad in this.’ So him as my father-in-law is very important to me.” Meghan then went on and said: “So I asked him to walk me down the aisle and he said yes.”

Unfortunately since the wedding and Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, King Charles and Prince Harry’s relationship has reportedly become more strained.

With the release of his memoir Spare and Harry referring in his book to private secretaries as ‘The Bee,’ ‘The Fly’ and ‘The Wasp,’ relations between the pair are putting it mildly only set to deteriorate even more.

There has been much speculation in the press about if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be invited to King Charles’s coronation this year. According to reports, senior royals are very concerned that if the Duke was to attend the event, it might result in conversations from the event being potentially used in another memoir.

It is still believed however that King Charles is still hoping to invite his son to be part of such a historic occasion. If this is the case, perhaps there is a tiny glimmer (even if this is incredibly tiny), of hope that the pair might be able to have some kind of relationship in the future?
