Can you imagine receiving a phone call asking you to meet Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to discuss the possibility of working for them as nanny to their new baby? Well, that is exactly what happened to Lorren Khumalo.

“I had this phone call and they were like ‘Prince Harry and Meghan want to see you, they want to talk to you about being a nanny to Archie,” revealed Lorren in the fourth episode of the ‘Harry and Meghan’ Netflix docuseries.

Before working for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Lorren reportedly worked as a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and then The Portland Hospital as a paediatric nurse. The Portland Hospital is where Meghan Markle gave birth to Archie.

It is also where Princess Eugenie gave birth to her son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. Other famous names who have had children at The Portland Hospital are Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Princess Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson.

During the Harry & Meghan docuseries episode four, Lorren spoke about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry being very involved parents. “They were really hands-on parents,” she revealed. “In the morning when he woke up, firstly mum and dad would come in, they would be with their baby, she would feed him and then after that I’d take over and normally we’d go for a morning walk.”

Lorren Khumalo accompanied Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Archie when the couple embarked on a tour to South Africa, Archie was four months old at the time.

It was during the 2019 documentary 'An African Journey' that Meghan revealed her mental health struggles to journalist Tom Bradby. “Thank you for asking, not many people have asked if I’m ok. It's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes,” Meghan revealed.

Although Lorren no longer is employed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, she was more than happy to talk in the docuseries.

Nannies have of course been employed by the Royals for many years. Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo is currently nanny to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. She is reportedly from the Spanish city of Palencia and is said to have joined the Prince and Princess of Wales household when Prince George was eight months old.

Maria is a graduate of Norland College, which is a prestigious educational college for those who want to pursue nannying as a career. According to their website, the founder of the college, Emily Ward (the college was founded in 1892), “recognised the need for early years childcare to be more structured, centred around the child, loving and nurturing.”

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales is of course passionate about the importance of early years, which is perhaps the reason why she was keen to hire a nanny from Norland.
