Are Meghan Markle and Serena Williams ‘good’ friends?

Serena Williams recently appeared in Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent Netflix docu-series, but the pair have known each other for over a decade.

Serena and Meghan reportedly first met at the Super Bowl in 2010 when the New Orleans Saints faced off against the Indianapolis Colts. The pair then met again at the Super Bowl in New York in 2014 and are said to have had an instant rapport.

Meghan interviewed Serena Williams for the debut episode of her podcast Archetypes, ‘The Misconceptions of Ambition with Serena Williams. When introducing her at the beginning of the podcast, Meghan refers to her as “my dear, dear friend.”

In 2014, Meghan and Serena competed in Celebrity Beach Bowl and the photographs show how relaxed the pair seem to be in each other’s company.

Over the years, Meghan has supported her friend Serena by watching the tennis star at her matches. Serena also has done her best to support her friend particularly when Meghan and Prince Harry went public with their relationship.

Serena also attended Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry on May 19 2018 and was accompanied by husband Alexis Ohanian.

Later that year, Meghan was also on hand to support Serena once again when she watched her play tennis at Wimbledon. Meghan was joined in the royal box by her new sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

Meghan also watched Serena alongside Kate Middleton again in 2019.

When Meghan and Prince Harry went on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, Meghan showed her support for Serena in a different way. She wore on one occasion a blazer designed by Serena.

In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s docu-series, Meghan spoke about her baby shower in New York that was attended by around 20 friends, including Serena Williams.

Serena also made a cameo appearance in the docu-series and spoke about the couple’s love for one another. “I’m looking at it through the lens of my friend, not a princess,” she said. “They as a couple are so tight and reply on each other so much and are each other’s best, best, best friends. I was just super excited”
