While the Royal Family paid their respects on Twitter, the Queen Consort Camilla, who had a particularly close relationship with Paul, was ‘deeply saddened’ by the news.

Camilla reflected on Paul’s ‘warm heart and infectious humour’ following his death on 28 March as the Royal Family shared a picture of Her Majesty with the For The Love Of Dogs host.

The Royal Family tweeted: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Paul O'Grady, who worked closely with Her Majesty in support of @Battersea_, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.”

King Charles’ wife has a love for pooches and has been a patron for Battersea since 2016, where she rescued two of her own dogs from, namely Beth and Bluebell.

Paul O’Grady was a long-term ambassador for the Kent-based animal welfare charity and joined forces with Queen Consort to raise awareness for Battersea in February last year.

In the episode, which is being shown again tonight at 5pm on ITV in honour of Paul, Camilla takes a West Highland Terrier for a walk with the host before their dogs took part in a loyalty duel where the pooches had to ignore toys and run directly to their owners.

Paul O’Grady had previously commented on his relationship with Camilla saying: “Camilla's a really funny woman — you can have a great laugh with her and you don't feel like you're on ceremony. I always get a big hug and kiss from her, too, which always shocks everybody.”
