Although Sarah Ferguson didn’t explicitly refer to Meghan and Harry in an interview with The Independent when she was talking about those who decide to leave the royal fold, it would be fair to assume she is alluding to the couple. The Duchess of York said:, “Well you can’t have it both ways. You can’t sit on the fence and keep one foot in and one foot out. You’re either in or out.”

These comments by Sarah Ferguson on ‘potentially’ Meghan and Harry could be seen as the latest attempt by The Duchess of York to distance herself from Meghan as she had previously told The Telegraph that “I don’t really know Meghan. I haven’t really met her.”

Sarah saying that she hadn’t really met Meghan seems at odds with what Meghan said in the Oprah interview in 2021 where she explained that Fergie had asked her if she knew how to curtsey. Meghan Markle said: ”Fergie ran out and said, ‘Do you know how to curtsey?’ she recalled. "Apparently I did a very deep curtsy, I don't remember it, and then we sat there and we chatted.”

According to The Daily Mail, “Harry recounted a similar story in his book, Spare, writing that he had actually hoped Fergie would be the first member of the family Meghan would meet.”

Although Sarah is reportedly not attending the coronation, perhaps her keenness to distance herself from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is to do with her loyalty to King Charles and the late Queen?

In an interview with People, Sarah said that “I’m very supportive of the King and the Queen Consort, and I really am glad to do whatever it takes to support them on their road ahead.”

Sarah Ferguson was interviewed on Loose Women on April 6 2023 and was asked if she would be attending the coronation. The Mirror newspaper reported that Sarah Ferguson “revealed she wanted to take the late Queen’s corgis with her to a nearby nursing home and planned to celebrate with them, putting bunting up and turning it into a big party for them all to mark the King’s Coronation.”
