It should have all been about Meghan Markle celebrating her Women of Vision Award with her husband Prince Harry and mother Doria Ragland by her side, but due to the alleged New York car chase that occurred after they left the event, it has without question been all about that.

When it comes to the latest developments regarding the alleged car chase, according to The Independent, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who called the alleged car chase by paparazzi in New York City on Tuesday night ‘near catastrophic’ demanded Backgrid, a California-based agency, to hand over the pictures and videos taken during he encounter. However the agency’s lawyers snubbed the royal couple, saying they cannot just make demands in America as ‘Kings can do.’"

With all this going on, it would be understandable if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s fifth wedding anniversary today becomes more than a little overshadowed by the larger events at play. It is likely that they will want to celebrate the occasion quietly in Montecito, possibly just with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

It will be interesting to see if the couple exchange wooden gifts as wood is the traditional choice of material for a fifth anniversary. According to Brides, wood “reflects the strength and durability of your marriage, as well as the strong eternal roots you’re putting down.”

When it came to their first wedding anniversary in 2019, Meghan Markle reportedly wrote out the wedding speech and had it framed for Prince Harry (paper is the traditional gift for a first wedding anniversary). A source told People that “On their second anniversary in 2020, they both gave each other gifts based on cotton. Undoubtedly, it was a very creative and romantic gesture as all their gifts are to one another.”

For their first wedding anniversary, the couple marked the occasion by posting photographs (14 in total) including some unseen photographs on their Instagram. The BBC reported that the photo montage was “accompanied by the song ‘This Little Light Of Mine,’ which played as they left St George’s Chapel, Windsor, on their wedding day.”

The Mirror are reporting that “Grant Harrod, who worked as Charles’ butler for seven years said Harry is ‘very sentimental’ and will ‘put a lot of effort’ into Meghan’s gift (for their fifth wedding anniversary). He went on to say that “I wouldn’t be surprised if they shared a new wedding or family picture they have found. You can guarantee Harry will put a lot of thought into their anniversary.”
