There has been much speculation about why Sarah Ferguson was seemingly ‘snubbed’ from the invitation list to King Charles’s coronation. However, the Duchess of York revealed the reasons why to Kate Garraway and Adil Ray on Good Morning Britain.

Sarah Ferguson said: “I’m not (going), it’s a state occasion and being divorced I don’t think you can have it both ways.” She then went on to say that “just because I’m not there on the state occasion, but in private I can be there, and that’s a lovely feeling to be part of, it really is and as I said you can’t have it both ways you musn’t sit on the fence you’re either in or out, don’t muck around.”

This is not the first time Sarah Ferguson has spoken about not having ‘it both ways.’ In April of this year, she spoke about if royal members decide to leave the fold (which many took her as alluding to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back as senior working royals), they ‘can’t sit on the fence’ and must make a decision whether they want to be ‘in or out.’

In her interview on Good Morning Britain, Sarah Ferguson also revealed that she believes that the focus should come off her former husband, Prince Andrew. “With Prince Andrew, he’s such a good man. He’s a kind good man, and I think the spotlight needs to come off him and let him get on with his life to rebuild.”

Although Sarah Ferguson is not going to the coronation (despite her ex husband Prince Andrew and their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugeine attending with their respective husbands), she is expected to be a VIP attendee at the coronation concert. According to the Daily Mail, “Sarah Ferguson, 63, will join other royals at the concert at Windsor Castle.”

Despite being divorced, Sarah Ferguson continues to enjoy a close relationship with Prince Andrew and revealed on Good Morning Britain that despite her divorce, she is “really loving being divorced to my ex-husband, not from him but to him, it’s important to differentiate.”
