They used to spend their time beside the heels of the last female monarch, a woman known for her love of animals - especially horses and dogs. Now the corgis are spending their days with Sarah Ferguson and she's spoken of how she has won them over with gravy bones.

Sarah has spoken to Hello Magazine about the two dogs she adopted with her ex-husband, Andrew, after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

"The corgis are very nice and very polite and well trained," said Sarah, known affectionately as Fergie.

"I am their favourite but everybody always says it's just because I feed them gravy bones. I love everything about them and I spoil them the most."

The two corgis, Muick and Sandy, currently live at Royal Lodge with Sarah and Andrew, after being moved from Balmoral after the Queen's death. The two dogs were reportedly at Elizabeth's bedside when she died, such was the comfort given to the monarch from her pets.

Elizabeth had many dogs of this breed throughout her life, beginning with a Pembrokeshire Welsh corgi named Dookie that was given to her and her sister Margaret from their father, King George VI, in 1933.

For the late Queen's 18th birthday she was given a corgi which was named Susan. All subsequent dogs owned by Elizabeth were said to be descended from Susan.

During her reign, which lasted 70 years, Elizabeth had more than 30 corgis. She did keep mixed breeds of corgis, such as Candy - a corgi-daschund mix. She was also not immune to the charm of a spaniel, as she had a prize-winning cocker spaniel named Lissy.

"My corgis are family," the late Queen said of her pack of corgis. They certainly helped her through difficult moments in her life and she was often seen in quiet reflection on walks with a few corgis by her side. When her husband Prince Philip had died in 2021, she was given the two dogs now entrusted to Sarah and Andrew.
