As Serena Williams unveils second pregnancy at the Met Gala, will Meghan Markle host a baby shower for her?

There may not have been any ‘hot new couple sightings’ at the Met Gala 2023, but there were some ‘baby bump unveilings’ instead. Serena Williams revealed that she is expecting her second child on the red carpet at the Met. 

Accompanied by her husband Alexis Ohanian, Serena looked incredibly chic in a black and white Gucci dress. She also shared her ‘pregnancy news’ on her Instagram. Accompanying the photograph of her and Alexis at the Met, the caption read: “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.”

The couple have one other daughter, Alexis Olympia Jr, who was born in 2017, and goes by the name of Olympia. She married Alexis Ohanian in a star studded wedding in New Orleans in 2017 that was attended by the likes of Beyoncé.

Although Serena has only just announced her second pregnancy publicly, her good friend Meghan Markle might be on hand in the future to help organise a baby shower for her. After all, Serena co-hosted a lavish affair for her when Meghan was pregnant with Prince Archie in 2019.

Meghan Markle’s baby shower took place at The Mark Hotel in Manhattan, New York, and was attended by her friends, Abigail Spencer, Daniel Martin (also Meghan’s make up artist), Misha Nonoo, Lindsay Roth and Serena Williams. Meghan discussed her baby shower in the Netflix docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan,’ as did her friends, including Serena Williams.

Serena said of the baby shower that “It was just so cool and so fun to try to have an intimate moment.” She also opened up about it to Business of Fashion and said that, “Planning something like that takes a lot of effort. I’m a perfectionist, so I’m like, ‘Let’s make it perfect,” she revealed. 

Meghan Markle and Serena Williams are clearly good friends and it is no surprise that Meghan has followed in Serena’s footsteps by signing up to talent agency WME. Meghan will work with CEO Ari Emanuel, agent Brad Slater, and agent Jill Smoller who is renowned for her work with Serena. It is likely that Serena introduced Jill to Meghan. 

Along with Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams was a guest at Meghan Markle's wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 and wore a figure hugging blush Versace dress. The couple documented getting ready for the event on social media and Serena said of the bride: "I've known her for so many years and I'm so happy for her."

If Meghan does return the favour and host a baby shower for Serena, perhaps she will decide to have it in the comfort and privacy of her Montecito home, rather than at a hotel? Watch this space…
