The former UK PM has been raking it in since he left office in the summer of 2022, and in one month alone he made a staggering figure...

Where to begin in the life and times of Boris. The man was forced from office after a series of scandals, including Partygate and Chris Pincher scandal.

For a recap...

There was Partygate where it was discovered the PM and a number of MPs attended gatherings despite strict lockdown rules during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Chris Pincher affair was where Johnson's deputy chief whip was accused of groping two men, a complaint Boris claimed to be unaware of which later turned out to be untrue.

The cost of living crisis and tax rises also clouded his leadership as did his actual skills to lead the country. His former Chief Advisor and BFF, Dominic Cummings, accused him of being an 'out-of-control shopping trolley'.

And this 'out-of-control-shopping trolley' has managed to supermarket sweep his way to a fortune.

In the last month, alone, he has earned nearly £1m. This mammoth sum is revealed in the MPs register of interests - the same place where it was shown that Matt Hancock has earned £462,144 in the last year and has only donated £10,000 of his £320,000 fee for I'm a Celebrity to charity.

The former prime minister received £510,000 as an advance on his upcoming book.

The book, which so far has no title or publication date, will be a 'prime ministerial memoir like no other', according to Arabella Pike, publishing director at William Collins, an imprint of HarperCollins UK.

"I look forward to working with Boris Johnson as he writes his account of his time in office during some of the most momentous events the United Kingdom has seen in recent times," she said.

Recent prime ministers who have written memoirs include David Cameron, whose For the Record was sold in a 'hotly contested and significant' deal, while Gordon Brown’s My Life, Our Times was sold for an 'undisclosed sum'. Tony Blair’s A Journey was reportedly sold for an advance of about £4.6m, although all the money he made was donated to the Royal British Legion.

Mr Johnson also earned £200,892.86 for a speech to Aditya Birla Management, an Indian conglomerate, and £246,406.57 from Bloomberg Singapore for a speech he made in the city.

He was paid £3,000 for an article he wrote for The Spectator magazine, which he said took an hour to write.

The new additions brought his total earnings from 14 December to 13 January to £960,298.

The ex-PM had earned £1,064,785 from jobs outside his MP or prime minister salary since the beginning of this parliament, which started in December 2019.

This latest addition brings his total up to £2,328,964.

Mr Johnson also revealed he was given flowers and chocolate worth £785 by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates. Those are quite the flowers and chocolates.

His latest declaration is likely to make him the second-highest earning MP this parliament as he overtakes Sir Geoffrey Cox, but remains behind Theresa May, who declared nothing in the past month.

The value of Mrs May’s interests puts her in the top 1 per cent of all MPs. Since the start of the current parliament, only one member has taken in more money than this MP. Mrs May’s biggest source of donations, earnings, gifts and other benefits is Cambridge Speaker Series. In total she has earned over £2.5 million.

And yet, Boris Johnson looks set to wheel his trolley along further aisles, throwing in as many lucrative goodies as he can. It won't be long before he eclipses Theresa May's fortune.

It pays to be PM, and even more so once you leave office. The exception to this rule would be Liz Truss, who did just 44 days in the top job.

She can still, outrageously, claim £115,000 a year for life due to holding the top job. She hasn't been cashing in with book deals or speeches since her departure though, as yet - whether by her own design or lack of opportunities.
